A great turnout for this Meet saw many hills climbed and many tales told in the roomy Glencoe Ski Lodge.

Mike & Jason

Mike and Jason had made the trip North the previous weekend and knocked a few more off Mikes rapidly diminishing list of Munros! We don’t normally include walks before the weekend, but Mike and Jason’s list deserves a mention.

Day 1 Geal Charn from Garva bridge.
Day 2 Mamore’s. Binnein Beag, Binnein Mor, Na Gruagaichean, An Gearanach, Stob Coire a Chairn and Am Bodach.
Day 3 Mamore’s. Sgurr a Mhaim, Stob Ban and Mullach Nan Coirean.
Day 4 Glen Etive. Meal Nan Eun, Stob Coir an Albannaich and Glas Bheinn Mhor.
Day 5 Black Mount. Creise and Meal a Bhuiridh.
Day 6 Buachaille Etive Mor/Beag x 4  Stob Dearg Stob na Broige, Raineach and Stob Dubh.
Day 7 Aonach Eagach Ridge. Meal Dearg and Fiannaidh.
Day 8 Black Mount. Stob a Choire Odhair and Stob Ghabhar.
34.726 ft of ascent
89 miles

Jason skipped on the offer of the Aonach Eagach and included 2 tops on Stob Ghabhar on the Saturday, missing out on Stob a Choire Odhair. Mike was glad to be accompanied by Dave on Saturday and enjoyed a leisurely pace on the 2 munros , rather than being flogged round the hills with Jason. Mike and Jason both thoroughly deserved their humungous portions of food on Saturday evening!

Norrie

Norrie took in the Corbett of Beinn Chuirn via Glen Cononish on Friday enjoying nice views down the Glen. Saturday saw him team up with Mike and Louise for a very long walk from the Kingshouse , via the Black Corries lodge out to the Graham/Fiona, Stob na Cruaiche. Weather was fair on top and they had clear views, west towards Cruachan, The Buachaille, Mamores and Ben Nevis. Round and over towards Ben Alder, with Schiehallion clear over in the east. It transpires that neither Norrie nor Mike had made Louise fully aware of the distance involved. She won’t let that happen again!

George & Susan

Friday saw George and Susan take on the munros of Beinn Achaladair and Beinn a’Chreachain in beautiful sunshine. All was going well until George’s footwear began to disintegrate on the way down. The last mile on stocking soles was a reminder to buy better gear! A short walk on Sub 2000, Ardsheal hill followed by coffee and cake in the local Hall was the extent of their Saturday!

Wallace and Katie

On Saturday, Wallace ventured out with Katie to do the Aonach Eagach Ridge – An exhilarating hike where Katie conquered the ridge with ease, very impressive given her lack of previous experience on such a demanding ridge with grade 2 scrambling. The highlight of the day was meeting the mountain goats near the top of the second munro, Sgorr nam Fiannaidh.

Sunday saw Wallace and Katie bag the corbett, Beinn a Chrulaiste via the pink ridge and then make it a circular walk back to the car passing the Kings House Hotel.

John, Alyn & Bill

John Calder, Bill and Alyn had a superb day on the Buachaille. Up onto Stob Dearg via it’s North Buttress then out to Stob na Broige to finish.

Mike

Mike P had previously done Meal a Bhurdui on a meet in February at the hut beside the ski centre but ran out of time. This left Creise to do as a solo. He had spoken to John Calder who said going up the Sron na Creise was a “nice gentle stroll” with very little scrambling !! This may be the case for a man that has climbed in the Alps !!!

A hard day in amazing weather, he eventually got to Creise then carried on over the second Munro.

The man on the Ski Lift was going to charge £10 to get back down so in the true spirit of the ’45, Mike declined the offer and walked, saving his hard earned cash for a pint in the café!

Ian

Ian Dale settled on the iconic hills of Beinn Dorain and Beinn an Dothaidh, enjoying a lovely walk. Remarkable powers of recuperation following an op – well done Ian.

Tina & Duncan

Duncan and Tina took on the mighty Bidean nam Bian and after a ten hour adventure descending into the lost valley, they left the mountain with some great memories.

Louise was suffering from injury so she and pal Xenia went paddling at Loch Etive and then went to Craft and Things Cafe for soup and cake, then a drive up towards Kinlochleven.

Deb and Alyson had a lovely day which involved the local Hotel!

Billy Beetroot had a flying visit in the camper van but enjoyed the Saturday night banter.

All in all despite the thunder and lightning, the clegs and the heat inside the building it was another great weekend for the ’45.
