The much anticipated pilgrimage to the north western mountaineering paradise of Assynt was somewhat marred by high winds and rain. Well, that’s summer in Scotland for you.

Raymond got ahead of the game and made it up early enough to the Friday to climb the Corbett Cul Beag before the worst of the weather arrived. Even then, it was blowing all over the place on top.

The following morning, it was absolutely howling!

Louise and Bill bravely took on the munros of Conival and Ben More Assynt. It started well…

… but soon deteriorated…

And by the time they reached the summit of Conival, the water was literally flowing up the hill.

After a brief conference huddled in the “shelter” on the summit, they decided that Ben More Assynt could wait for a better day and retreated to the hut.

Ania and Adrian went for a walk along the cliffs at Reiff which were quite spectacular in the stormy conditions.

Raymond also decided to skip the mountains and had a gentle tourist day seeing the sights.
